Rainy random day

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Ummm, a few random notes. We’ve been going to Trader Joe’s for fun. Last trip produced a bag full of hummus and turbot. Fun.
I’m looking forward to a year off–that is, a year to make some money, finish my dissertation, and read a few books. And that feels like a year off to me.
I enjoy [...]

Mr. Rogers: Psychic?

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

My Mr. Rogers calendar may be rubbing it in, or maybe it has some psychic sense of humor. The quote for Un-Match day, Fri. the 24th, was as follows:
We may feel that transitions (times between one thing and another) are “nowhere at all,” but they are extremely important in getting us ready to face what’s [...]

Always work from the primary source

Friday, February 24th, 2006

The following is the rather disappointing result of the much anticipated email which I received this morning:
To: My R. Indignation - Applicant Code 12346
This message provides you with your Match result for the APPIC Internship Matching Program for internship positions beginning in 2006.

We regret to inform you that you did not match to a position.
Don’t [...]

Two scottish guys walk into a bar

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Not really. I just happen to be in the middle of a book by G.K. Chesteron (The Ball and the Cross) in which two Scotchmen, an atheist and a Catholic, are currently attempting to fight a duel over whose views are correct. It’s a good story, and I’ve been reading it instead of doing homework.
This [...]

And they’ll know we are Christians by our piles of theological knowledge

Friday, February 17th, 2006

This week, I visited my academic advisors in the schools of theology and psychology in preparation for registration. As of next week, I will have registered for the last classes I will take in graduate school, or any school for that matter. Appropriately, the classses include the integration of psychology and theology (the class for [...]

Jesus Christ’s AM Radio Show

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

Today, a small group visited the KFI radio station today in order to sit in studio during broadcasting of the ‘Jesus Christ Show.’ Hope I got my radio lingo right.
Neil Saavedra, also KFI’s promotions/PR guy, ‘produces’ the JCS. Between 6-9am every Sunday morning, Neil assumes the persona of Christ and takes listener calls regarding theological [...]

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

Today I will:

eat bacon
listen to Gregorian Chant
write psych reports
cook a vegetarian meal for guests
fantasize about express-mailing my dissertation materials to the fiery depths of the hottest, most squalid pit in hades
water plants–mostly gerberas and a huge pot full of moss (scottish/irish variety)
sleep in late. very late.
journal
read a book i’m not supposed to read instead a [...]

Nerd joy, continued.

Friday, February 10th, 2006

I’ve prepared a brief theological treatise on the use of Matthew 18:20 as the verse on our instantchurch.com site. I can’t believe it was fun to write. I used to have to do stuff like this for homework, but now I’m doing it for kicks. I’m really growing into my nerdiness, embracing it even.
Unfortunately, since [...]

Nerd Joy.

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

I’m writing a paper for my final psychology class in grad school on the topic of integration of theology and psychology. My particular topic deals with story, and its use in psychology and theology. I love stories–I’m a voracious reader–so it only made sense for me to write about something I love in the attempt [...]

Thursday

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

I’m a big fan of Thursday. Ever since I started grad school, I’ve technically been doing a four day week. Classes and practicum hours generally end on Thursday. Of course, Thursday then gives way to a weekend full of homework, but at least there isn’t any classtime or commute. I’ve been having trouble savoring today’s [...]
