Your 'daily-doings' observations remind me of what I saw the other day while taking my morning walk. Hmmm. I might have already told you about this. My 2 mile round trip, up and back Birchdale/Patton, if taken at the right (wrong?) time, crosses my path with elementary, middle and high schoolers. It was last week...Monday, I think. So... the 2nd week of school, the first Monday morning. What I observed were almost NO smiling faces. The exception was a little grade-school girl, holding her mother's hand, happily walking and chatting, with a big grin. The saddest were the really little ones walking all by themselves. Middle schoolers in pairs we less glum, but not smiling or animated. One mom, wearing PJs (with sheep or something on them), parked her car accross the street from Sussman Middle School and got out to watch her daughter cross the street. Boy, that would have never flown with me when I was in Jr. High! But hey, the girl didn't seem perturbed by it. Maybe knowing someone really wanted her to be safe (enough to get out of the car in PJ's) outweighed potential embarassment. Or maybe she is a very rare breed of middle schooler who doesn't give a rip what anyone else thinks. OR... maybe she was still half a sleep and was totally unaware of her circumstances. Anyway, observation is entertaining.
