Have your unconscious call my unconscious.

The update is 5 interviews, 3 go-jump-off-a-cliffs. I know these don’t make for very interesting posts. Sorry. (Late-breaking update: Move the tally to 6 interviews, including 2 L.A. area sites).

On a perhaps unrelated note, although much more jargony and definitely weird, note, Amy has piqued my curiosity regarding the unconscious (the deep, unknown parts of the psyche, not when you get hit on the head real hard) as an avenue through which the Holy Spirit works. I consider that such a post will be of interest largely, and perhaps solely, to myself so perhaps I can pare my 9 paragraph thesis down to a few sentences. We see only a small portion of what God does, and understand even less of what he thinks. There are extensive parts of the self about which we are similarly unaware. What do I make of situations in which the God I know colludes in an unpredictable and unseen way with a part of me I don’t know very well in order to bring about a result I was unlikely to have realized using my own knowledge and will power? Just in case Doug’s reading, I’m a good Arminian (not Armenian) but I’m also a good psychologist, and there are parts of me that stand outside my conscious knowledge and choice. What does God do with those, and how do I feel about it?

See, promised it would be weird.

what an interesting road of thought to walk down…i wonder too if the holy spirit doesn’t have some communication with the parts of our psyche that even we don’t really have communication with. it’s been a long while since my last psychology class, so i have no idea actually how unaware we are of what’s happening in our unconscious. i would guess that yes, certainly the holy spirit has access to all of us if we are her temple, but to what extent are we able to be influenced or guided and not know about it? does that infringe on our free will? wow. you know more about the psyche than anyone i know. i hope you will share more than just a few sentences of thought. bring on the 9 paragraph thesis!

Not to downplay the high level of brain hurting going on here, but if the Holy Spirit is talking to my unconscious, which I’m not aware of, then isn’t this like thinking about something I’ll never know about anyways? I don’t mind acknowledging the influence of the holy spirit…but seems like there isn’t much to say about something I don’t know is happening. :)
