The St. Louis magnet is a picture of the Arch.
The last plan trip is over. We were getting tired of airports. We had “freezing rain” in St. Louis, which I haven’t yet been able to distinguish from sleet, but just as the Eskimos have multiple words for snow, so Midwesterners have a panoply of words for rain. Everyone we met in Missouri congratulated us from being from Southern California, and asked with genuine surprise why we were there. It would be fun to do a comparative study on prejudices/fantasies Californians have about Missouri/Missourans and vice versa. When asked about life here, we mostly told everyone we live at Disneyland, that is when we aren’t too busy sunbathing and surfing.
All my programs are top-notch and it will be a delightful dilemma to have to put them in some sort of preference order. I’ll take votes for which state/city MRI readers would most like an excuse to visit. Again, the out-of-town contenders are Tucson, Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio, St. Louis, and San Diego. Any helpful facts about these locations which would be irrelevant to my decision making would be appreciated. For instance, ‘Tucson’ is a derivative of the word ‘Stjukshon,’ which is an Indian word meaning “village of the dark spring at the foot of the mountain.”
On the whole, I’ve learned that I love hanging out in airports–shopping and Starbucks all within walking distance of a comfy chair–and that I am a talented young professional who deserves the opportunity to move to a god-forsaken city to get paid minimum wage. Just kidding. All these cities have been very fun. My only disappointment: I forgot to buy a magnet in Dallas. Darn.

I’ll vote for St. Louis, just because I’ve never been there. We can go to a Dodgers/Cards game.

I am surprised that McDonalds has not put a Golden Arches to St. Louis next to the Gateway to the city.
