A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall
A rainy day not only relieves the sense of cabin-fever which accompanies this dissertation work, but creates a sense of cozy comfort that makes being holed up working seem just the right thing to do today. Bob Dylan helps set the mood for the rain well. This particular song (A Hard Rain…) reminds me of the book of Revelation with all its strange imagery.
I have always loved a gray, rainy day. Maybe it suits my natural melancholy, or perhaps my sense of novelty. Even more, rain makes it seem okay to be home, refraining from rushing around and about, and instead just enjoying the day, ideally in pajamas, reading a novel, and drinking hot cocoa.
Don’t forget the marshmallows.

yep, that dylan tune is a good one. joan baez does a nice rendition of it on the album Any Day Now which is a double album of all dylan songs. i think i’m gonna have to get me that on cd. i’ve got it on vinyl somewhere, but no turn table. hint hint. mother’s day is next month.

I share your love for rainy days. I think it suits my natural melancholy as well. Everything just seems enhanced in the rain, plus the added benefit of staying home an being warm is great. Sometimes regular days are just too bright.

Maybe we should start a club. Melancholics Only. Realists Unite. Could start a parallel club called Optimists Anonymous for our unwell counterparts.

But would any optimists show up to a meeting. I’m sure they would have confidence that someone will show up to keep it going.
Really lame, I know.

The optimists wouldn’t believe they needed to go to a meeting. The realists/melancholists would doubt a meeting would help.
Not much better.

Maybe we just weren’t cut out to be critical comics. Just critics

Hey. Speak for yourself. I choose to continue developing my sense of critical comedy, even though it’s not going to work.
Get it? My pessimistic worldview undermines my hopes and dreams. Now that’s comedy.
