O Come, All Ye Blogful

This post is a break from working on the dissertation. I’ve been running stats while sitting in my stinky workout clothes and without my glasses on. I know that as soon as I get up to shower or even get my spectacles, I’ll lose momentum and stop working. Instead, I’m squinting and persevering.

Christmas songs on the Pandora. I sang carols on my way home from work today. It’s that time of year. The weather is getting positively brisk outside, and I’m feeling the desire to put out my 3 decorations, including toilet paper tube Santa. Stopped by Shady Canyon last Sunday to see the Ferraro clan and took the liberty of playing just a minute or two of piano. Gosh I miss piano. I’ve been having withdrawals recently, and the desire to sit down and play some carols is really getting me.

Which reminds me, I’ve been wondering how many of you reading are 20-somethings (or 30-somethings or teen-somethings) who have begun neglecting a once loved instrument for whatever reason, be it a lack of time, or a lack of a living space capable of housing a baby grand (or, more primarily, a lack of the $15,000 necessary to buy said baby grand)?

I miss playing music, especially at Christmas.

AH my little Pandora has progressed so nicely… so much love for the theme / genre stations.

I’ve neglected my saxophone partly due to embarrassment (thanks to the mean middle school kids, crappy marching band and my terrible closeted/angry music teacher) and partly due to it being such a LOUD instrument to practice… there’s just no way to play it and have it sound a smooth as Kenny G or 94.7 the wave.

Besides, who needs to play a REAL instrument when there’s a ROCK BAND in the house! So much more fulfilling when you shred on some popular music that you’re not really playing!

Yes, I have also neglected my guitar. I have been telling Angelo that I have that itch to pick it up and play again. I stopped only because my guitar is older than dirt. No really. My dad bought it in 1964 and I think even then it was a piece of crap. The bridge needs serious work and it holds a tune for about 3 seconds. So, it is retired.

I say you with your piano, Angelo and his sax, and me with my guitar should brush up on some old tunes and go out on the road. That would be hot.

I still owe you a birthday lunch and cosmo. When the heck are you in town again?

I neglect my Theremin. Of course, I left it in Colorado Springs.

I always wanted to learn play an instrument, but now that I have to sit through Mrs. Taylor’s beginning band class at 8:30 every morning, I’ve changed my mind. I don’t ever want to be in charge of making anything sound so horrible.

Go for it Denise. Play your heart out. I’ll have Jason build you a piano for Christmas.

I never got into music (actually playing), but I miss playing volleyball. It was a huge part of my life during middle and high school but I’ve hardly touched a ball since I graduated high school.

”…… but I’ve hardly touched a ball since I graduated high school.”

I don’t even know what to say about this. BUT, I laughing hysterically right now.

    ”… I’M laughing….”

    DOH!
