Everything that Rises Must Converge…in Downey.

When you’ve been running in one vein in life for a long time, it’s always nice to feel things change. And by change, I mean it’s always nice to get a job in Downey. It’s funny that for years I’ve been living across the street from a rehab hospital and wondering why I’ve never had a job there, and now I do. But that doesn’t start until September, and there’s good stuff before then. The dissertation is within a few months of being finished, and I’ll be graduating on June 14th. Save the date. Between movement in the diss, an upcoming graduation, and a secure post-doc, things definitely begin to feel like they’re changing for the better.

In reading a scripture journal given me by Judy, I came across a reference to a verse referring to God’s people being the apple of his eye. I’ve been reflecting on this with gratitude during the process of seeking a post-doc, which is a terrifying and trying process. So again, I’m grateful that God provided direction and a future for me in a way that now seems impossibly perfect. Which is always how he handles these situations–and I’ve been in them half a dozen times over my college years. Each time he has acted with more goodness than I even know how to pray or hope for, so perhaps this time is the time I will learn to have faith and not doubt. I’m grateful for God’s willingness to treasure us despite our weakness and doubt and fear, and to treat us like his own children nonetheless.

6 I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God;
Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech.
7 Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand,
O You who save those who trust in You
From those who rise up against them.
8 Keep me as the apple of Your eye;
Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,
9 From the wicked who oppress me,
From my deadly enemies who surround me.
–Psalm 17

Jason, there’s probably a chesed in there, eh? Verse 7? Blessings as you seek God in his word, by the by.

Finally, thanks to Luna for all the funny videos on his site. I’ll never stop thinking of C3PO as the shiny one who worries a lot.
