Raise your hand.

No, seriously. Raise your hand.

Now if your hand is raised (as mine is while I type, which is hard to do) you are tired of listening to me talk about my dissertation. See what I did there.

I’d like to officially announce that my damn dissertation is officially on the downhill slide. It should continue sliding for several more weeks, and I will still be pushing it all the way, but it’s a downhill gradient nevertheless. At the end of that gradient is a steep drop off from which anything and everything can be express hell-mailed to the dark lord himself. May satan choke to death on the boring-ass pages of my dissertation.

With that said, it remains to be seen whether everything will be taken care of by commencement day–June 14th. Looks like I’ll be defending on 4/21/08, but then the document goes into all kinds of revisions and editing crap, and it may not make it out the other side in time for Walkuation on the 14th. This would be somewhat disappointing, but is also largely irrelevant. Whether on June 14th or 20th or July 1st or 9th or who gives a crap when cuz SOON it will be done and I can actually say that and believe it. After seven years, it nearly twists my brain right out of my skull to think I’m nearly done, and that what remains is a cake walk compared to what I’ve been through.

So for the next few months, the theme of this blog may be a bit one-dimensional. Pardon any repetition, it’s hard to keep my brain, and therefore my blog, from steadily repeating “I’m almost done…I’m almost done…” Also, I’ve inhibited a whole bunch of curse words in this post. I prefer to keep things clean (online), but no guarantees in the future.

Finally, I’d like to say that the new production of Sense and Sensibility on PBS was very enjoyable. Andrew Davies is a genius, and loves to keep true to original novels, however I felt the production suffered from either its editing or directing. It was just a bit too fast paced–not enough quiet landscape shots, and too few lingering glances and portentous silences. The new Edward Ferrars is certainly an improvement over Hugh Grant, as is the new Elinor. Discuss.

Any talking you’ve done about your dissertation, within my earshot, has been coaxed from you, by me. So, I don’t know of what you speak when you suggest that everyone is tired of hearing you talk about it. Yay for you. . . almost done, almost done! And surely the powers that be at Fuller will help you do whatever the heck needs to be done so that you can walk on the 14th of June. And if not. . . . the whole lot of us should show up on somebody’s doorstep and seriously put a kink of some sort in their scrawny neck!

This is one of those huge life changing moments. One that you dream about for years, and now finally you’ll be on the other side of it! It’s one of those things where the grass looks greener on the other side, and then when you finally get there you’re like “holy crap this grass is green!”

And I liked the 3 mins of Sense and Sensibility I watched because it was in HD.
